International Children's Festival of Performing Arts (ICFPA ) was started in the year 2000 under the aegis of Ryan Foundation. Its main aim was to create an international platform for young people to perform, unite, exchange ideas and explore the medium of dance, drama, puppetry and various other genres of performing Arts.
We believe that performing arts is a sensitive, creative and liberal medium of expression for children which helps to establish a bond of friendship and cooperation among nations. Politics and religion divide people but art and culture unite them – the truth of the statement is brought home through varied theatrical performances.
Actors through body language and facial expressions express various human emotions like indignation, ecstasy, envy and excitement. Thus, irrespective of language, performing arts has a universal understanding.
ICFPA creates events and forums where participants from across the globe participate and amalgamate. The festival is not limited to viewing performances; here the focus is interaction, improvisation, play and discussion among the participants.
Children have immense energy, which lies dormant in them. Improvisation helps to taps this energy and makes them more confident to express and emote. Every bit of interaction that the child experiences, builds in him self-confidence to face the challenges of the world. Through his actions he gives his imaginative ideas a real form which creates in him a sense of satisfaction.
In the late 1990's we realized that there are not many performing arts festivals for children in India . With the boom in Television and Internet, children were either glued to their computer or television screens. It was decided to thus, create a forum where children could unite, interact and express their opinions and views using various genres of performing Arts.
In earlier years we started ICFPA, with performances from within India . This was the right beginning with dance, drama, puppetry, interactive plays and music recitals. The stage was created for children to exhibit their talent in an unfettered manner. The aim of the festival was to promote cultural harmony through myriad performances and organize workshops for children.
The festival spread its roots far and wide, with more Asian , African and European countries joining us year after year. In the year 2004, we had more than 280 performances and 4000 children participating in the festival.
Over the years ICFPA has traveled through the path of popularity to the interiors of India . We had smaller festivals in Nagpur , Nasik , Raipur , Aurangabad , Jaipur, Ludhiana , Surat Amritsar and Chandigarh . |
